Hi and welcome to Keep It Sambal, the best food blog on the internet! No sarcasm here 😄😉
Keep It Sambal started back in April 2017 while I was travelling, working, and living in Southeast Asia. It was initially a way to share all the interesting foods and cuisines I was trying in Southeast Asia as I felt sharing just pictures wouldn’t do the food and the story behind the meals justice.
I wanted a way to share all the new cuisines and dishes I was being exposed to in my epic Southeast Asian travels. I am quite adventurous when it comes to trying new foods but I was trying things so completely foreign to me I felt like I needed to share it another way… and so…
Keep It Sambal was born!
What is Sambal?
I was first introduced to the Sambal spice on my first weekend after arriving in Singapore. I ventured to a famous Singapore Hawker center – which is like a massive food court with every food imaginable. It was there that I first tried Sambal, a tangy, sweet and spicy sauce with hints of garlic, tamarind, red chiles, sugar, and sometimes lemongrass.
Sambal is used in pretty much every type of dish from seafood, noodles, chicken, and other meats. It has a distinctly bold taste that lets you know you eating Southeast Asian cuisine. Sambal flavors can be found throughout Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and even Thailand and Vietnam.
I love spicy foods, so I immediately fell in love with all things Sambal. Sambal then became the inspiration for the blog.
What is the BLOG all about?
My goal and intent for the blog is to share and introduce to you new foods, restaurant, recipes, and give you a new take on different cultures and cuisines from around the world. This blog also serves as a place to provide my reviews and trip itineraries for the travelling foodie!
Hopefully this blog inspires you to try a new cuisine, gives you some ideas for restaurants and recipes, and is a fun way to keep up with my travels and what I’m up to!
Or maybe you just get a kick out of listening to a crazy American give his take on different dishes and his love for food and travel!
Either way, I hope you find something on the blog that inspires you – whether that’s travelling to new country, restaurant, or just grilling in your backyard with some Sambal spice! ✌🏼😋
The Reset
I continued to travel and document my food adventures on the blog since 2017 but unfortunately in May 2019 I lost most the blog content (server crash) and with it all of my original blog posts.
KeepItSambal was broken but not defeated! So we hit a reset starting in April 2019 with a return trip to Singapore and first post on the new server. The blog continues to be a place to for me to document and share some great food and my adventures. I haven’t kept up with regular post as much as I would like, but still put out content every couple months!
Keep It Sambal is very much alive!
Thanks for checking out the blog and please do subscribe and follow on Instagram to get the latest posts and updates!
Bon Appetit!
